About iENTIRE

 

The dedication of the institute, in particular towards academic entrepreneurship and business as well as social innovation, is embedded in the university’s profile in Business, Innovation and Economic Change. At the heart of this university-wide thrust towards entrepreneurship, the University of Wuppertal is committed to propelling entrepreneurship through a broad range of activities in entrepreneurship education, research, and policy. Together with partners from the region (that is the “Bergisches Land” in North Rhine Westphalia) the university has been one of the initial university regions promoted within the German EXIST – University-Based Business Start-Ups programme of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy since the millennium change.  The University of Wuppertal has been repeatedly awarded as one of the best higher education institutions in entrepreneurship education and start-up support. The university has been among the first public institutions to establish chairs in entrepreneurship as well as entrepreneurship education and is home to the UNESCO Chair for Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Management – the three chairs also constitute iENTIRE‘s board of directors.

iENTIRE co-operates with the Chairs of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (Prof. Koch; Prof. Volkmann) and  Management and Entrepreneurship Education (Prof. Braukmann) within the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics. With its name dedicated to Schumpeter, the school is committed to innovation and entrepreneurship across its faculty.  In cooperation with researchers from the chairs mentioned above, the iENTIRE team contributes to the school’s commitment and builds a bridge between teaching, research and knowledge transfer.

  • Teaching: The entrepreneurship chair teams and iENTIRE offer entrepreneurship education within a broad and differentiated teaching portfolio which has grown over many years – establishing two entrepreneurship chairs (in the management and economics of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education) in a business faculty has been a unicum in Germany. We teach courses to post- and undergraduates across the university in a number of areas such as entrepreneurial management and economics (e.g. start-up/ growth management and entrepreneurship policy), entrepreneurship education (e.g. training future school teachers) as well as social and sustainable entrepreneurship and innovation (in co-operation with the university’s UNESCO Chair of Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Management and the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Engergy
  • Research and Knowledge Transfer: Just as in its teaching efforts, iENTIRE takes an open and broad approach towards its research and knowledge transfer activities which revolve around the following main areas: university entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, social and sustainable entrepreneurship, cultural entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Within these fields we merge our research work with entrepreneurship policy and consulting projects for different institutions (e.g. UNESCO; European Commission; German federal and state ministries; regional municipalities). In our knowledge transfer activities in particular, we are involved in “bizeps”, a regional network for promoting start-ups from the University of Wuppertal (for more information about bizeps at Wuppertal University and iENTIRE’s consulting and business planning offers see and www.bizeps.de). In addition to supporting academic entrepreneurs from university we also lead and contribute to initiatives within civil society such as Enactus and Sustainable Insights where students carry out social and sustainable entrepreneurial projects.
